I have never typically seen ill results from restoring on the same firmware version.
It gets a bit more hairy when you are dealing with different firmware versions and different jailbreak utilities.
Most jailbreakers will agree that not restoring from a previously jailbroken backup is the best way to upgrade. The only exception I see to this rule is if you have to restore (not upgrade).
For example, I recently had to swap my i Phone out. After I swapped my phone, I just restored from a backup.
This should work with any device i Pod / i Phone / i Pad and future i Devices while they are compatible with Pwnage Tool Cydia Settings Pwnage Tool is great, but if you tried before to add custom packages to your custom firmware, only seemed possible to add "official" ones.
Pwnage Tool expects that repository URL will contain a dists directory.
If you have a tip of your own you'd like to suggest, add them to the comments or send them in to [email protected]
This means all tweaks and customizations will be erased and stock i OS 8.1.1 installed.
However we can override this problem with a little trick, by renaming our repository URL like in the pic. This is the definitive solution to add custom sources and custom packages to your custom firmware in Pwnage Tool. Select the latest App Sync version compatible with your i OS firmware You will be able to add any package from any cydia repository available.
I'll add App Sync, Installous and latest Cydia from Saurik repository to my custom firmware.
When you want to update your firmware all you’ll need to do is download the firmware manually from a site like this and use option Restore in i Tunes to update to the newest firmware.
This is, at this time, the only method available to recover all your installed cracked Apps and their settings automatically at the first i Tunes sync once you upgrade your jailbroken i Phone.
